Hi! I’m Korena. Welcome to my blog!
I spend an unreasonable amount of time thinking about food, and the kitchen is where you can almost always find me, trying to turn those thoughts into reality. My M.O. is real food, mostly from scratch, with fresh, local ingredients whenever I can get my hands on them. The “from scratch” bit is partly philosophical and partly because I just really like doing it.
I’m happiest when I’m up to my elbows in flour, butter, sugar, and chocolate. I love to cook, but I especially love to bake, and in recent years this blog has been primarily dedicated to chronicling baking as my creative outlet. I also love a challenge, and I started this blog so I could bake along with the monthly Daring Bakers challenges to satisfy my desire for big projects in the kitchen (the fancier and more complicated, the better!).
I actually began university with the goal of becoming a food writer, but I changed paths along the way and ended up with a degree in psychology and a spot on the varsity rowing team. This led to working in administration in the Canadian high performance sport system, which then morphed into working in human resources, which I love. This blog allows me to be a food writer in my spare time, which is AWESOME.
My other hobbies include reading, exercising (mostly lifting heavy things and putting them back down again), being outside, and collecting cookbooks (which is less of a hobby and more of an addiction). Some of my favorites include anything Canadian Living, the Rebar Cookbook, Dinner: A Love Story, Classic German Baking, Bravetart, Dorie’s Cookies and Baking Chez Moi, Tartine, and Good to the Grain. And of course, my trusted friend Martha can always be counted on.
I live in the Cowichan Valley area of Vancouver Island, on the West Coast of Canada, with my boyfriend fiancé husband Nate and our son Max.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you come back soon. You can also find me on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and my RSS feed is here.
